What is Positive Psychology?

Positive Psychology focuses on the study of human strengths, virtues and optimal functioning, founded by Martin Seligman in 1998.​

Positive psychologists believe that focusing only on what's wrong with us can cause us to overlook our strengths and talents which are often hidden beneath layers of negative thoughts or emotions like fear or shame. Positive Psychology aims at helping people become more aware of these strengths so they can use them more effectively in their daily lives.

This idea was first introduced by Founding Father Thomas Jefferson when he wrote in his Declaration of Independence that all men are "endowed by their Creator" with certain rights including "life," "liberty," and "the pursuit of happiness."
