“Therapy is about uncovering and recovering whereas coaching is about discovering”
Patrick Williams
Coaching vs Counselling

Counselling is not the same as coaching. When addressing personal concerns, a counseller or therapist will do so in far greater detail than a coach would. An experienced therapist or counsellor makes a diagnosis and uses their knowledge to encourage recovery. Emotions are viewed as signs. Progress can be gradual and sometimes unpleasant as it entails examining the past. Coaching clients, on the other hand, frequently have good health and want to move from good to exceptional. Health diagnoses are not the goal of coaching, nor is recovery. Progress usually happens quickly and is joyful when the coach and the client are both equal partners. The present and the future are also emphasised.

Reset Coaching is not therapeutic individual counselling. It is likely that while coaching, we may discuss issues related to personal struggles, motives, and aspirations, but only in the precise context of the clearly defined coaching objectives. Although this is used to examine issues throughout the session, there may also be elements of fundamental therapeutic practice.

At Reset Coaching our ethical position is that we will not undertake clients who may still be in the midst of their issues and who clearly need therapy, in this case we will refer onwards. We work with clients who are prepared to assume full responsibility for their coaching journey and who desire someone to support them in making significant changes in their life. Our clients are the real authorities in their own lives, even though we may be experts in change as a coach, giving clients control over the process is revolutionary in and of itself.

At Reset Coaching, we work to recognise and discuss the client's present issues and behaviours so they can work to change them. Counsellors and therapists concentrate on the "why" behind specific behavioural patterns, but as a coach, we focus on the "how" to achieve a goal.
The client's ideas, feelings, and how they are influenced by the past will be the main emphasis of counselling and therapy. As the client dissects their limiting beliefs and analyses their blueprint, with its ultimate focus on the present and future, we may bring up these ideas during coaching sessions.
